Specialized in Employment and Business Litigation, she is a seasoned trial lawyer in federal, state and administrative forums. She has tried numerous jury, bench and administrative employment discrimination, wrongful termination, wage and hour, and labor disputes. Her expertise includes counseling employers in litigation avoidance as to wage and hour, unemployment, discrimination, harassment, Labor Commissioner, DFEH, NLRA and EEOC claims.
She has regularly provided advice and counsel to assist businesses with regulatory compliance, overtime, proprietary information agreements, and independent contractor issues. She has successfully defeated certification of class actions in state court wage and hour cases; and won a federal court case involving an alleged misclassification of an exempt employee.
Ann has significant experience in assisting companies with business, licensing, trade secret, NLRB, Labor Commission, EEOC, and DFEH administrative investigation and proceedings. She successfully argued Ali v American Software at the U.S. Court of Appeals, the seminal case which set the standard for payment of termination commissions to salespersons, which resulted in a reported decision.
Ann also has considerable experience negotiated union agreements and grievances.
Ann strives to distinguish herself as a trial attorney and to establish a business base by networking and producing consistently good trial results, as well as litigation avoidance processes and advice to all businesses, in various industries.
Specialties: State and federal trials of employment, misappropriation of trade secrets, trademark infringement and other commercial disputes. Negotiation of union contracts, and trial of arbitration disputes. Counseling of employers with respect to union grievance issues, potential arbitration issues and NLRB charges.
Over the years, Ann has served the community through work with the San Mateo County Lawyer Referral Service assisting individuals and small businesses with employment and simple corporate work.
In her spare time, Ann is an avid reader of murder mysteries, and enjoys movies, live theater, and concerts of all types.
